There's a fabulous painting of this on the side of an old (almost derelict) building (changing room I think) on a football pitch on the south bank of the Ribble (opposite Avenham Park) I've often admired it whilst walking past. I just watched Tom Hanks in 'Angels & Demons' and recognised a shot of the statue, in Rome - I thought I'd have a go.

Photographed this duck today

I have been trying some (not copying) from a course by Mark Kistler (lear to draw in 30 Days)
Also darkened Bullock on computer

DRAWING on the RIGHT SIDE of my BRAIN

DRAWING on the RIGHT SIDE of my BRAIN

September 29th 2013

I had a set of pencils and a sketch book delivered last week:

A colleague of mine (Loz Lomax) had posted some of his drawings on Facebook - it kind of inspired me.

My first atempt was this 'Burying Beetle' which I caught in my moth trap (I copied from a photo that I taken)

Next I had a go a 'Rosy Rustic' again I had caught this in my moth trap and photographed it
(Richard Lewington has nothing to worry about)

I ordered a book from AMAZON  - DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN - by Betty Edwards (My son Ryan recommended it.) These next four drawings were done before the book arrived:-

Finally the book arrived
- made for a lightly different approach.
This Butterfly - I found a picture on the internet - turned it upside down and copied it upside down
I thought I'd try a self portrait - I got Bernadette to photograph me - I stood by the window in an attempt to illuminate half my face - I then placed a grid over the photo - drew a grid on my paper and copied onto the grid (again upside down)
I noticed one or two grid lines showing on the finished article - needed a grid that didn't need erasing. Printed one on card so that I could place beneath paper and see through.
Result (From a photo of a friend of mine - again copied upside down)
